Unveiling the 'Wild and Whimsical': An Inside Look at the Exhibition

In October 2022 I was fortunate to be a part of a joint exhibition with another talented local artist Elizabeth Rosa at Down by the Liffey Gallery (a local Gallery in Lincoln, Christchurch).

For this exhibition both Elizabeth and I created paintings featuring New Zealand birds and flora. Our exhibition explored and celebrated the 'wild and whimsical', the beauty of New Zealand birds and flora in a bold, vibrant and intricate way.

Elizabeth created striking and beautiful large scale paintings of birds with brilliant flower crowns. Her works were so detailed with the fine details in the birds feathers, they were truly amazing to see in person! She had a range of beautiful pieces, and I felt so honoured to have my works displayed along side her talent!

For this exhibition I created a collection of circular paintings to explore the beauty of our natural world in colour that is vibrant and bold, creating striking works that bring attention to how our native birds and flora need to be protected and conserved. Inspired by the idea of native birds, gardens and forests, each piece aims to transport you to a garden or forest with a particular native bird/ flora. (Above Photo: Eszter Luca's art)

Down by the Liffey Gallery was established in 2011, and is in a beautiful old heritage building run by volunteers, they have new exhibitions every month with local emerging and established artists. Down by the Liffey Gallery catered a beautiful opening night with wine and nibbles and they made the whole experience so special, a big thank you!
