Meet the Artist
Eszter Luca is a Christchurch-based artist creating colourful, nature-inspired acrylic paintings celebrating New Zealand’s native birds and the beauty of our natural world.
Inspired by native birdlife, seasonal blooms and the character of the landscapes around her, Eszter combines expressive painting with layered, fine art-inspired backgrounds to create artworks that feel vibrant, atmospheric and full of life. Her paintings bring together playful birds, abundant florals and painterly layers, with gold and copper leaf occasionally adding warmth and a subtle shimmer as they catch the changing light.
With a background in Interior Design, Eszter also considers how each artwork will live within a space. From colour and composition through to scale and atmosphere, her work is created to feel at home within an interior while still making a statement.
Alongside her original collections, Eszter creates bespoke bridal bouquet paintings, transforming wedding flowers into timeless works of art. Each commission balances careful observation with artistic interpretation, preserving the details, movement and sentiment of a bouquet while creating a piece that feels personal to the couple and their story.
At the heart of Eszter’s practice is a love of colour, nature and the small details that make us stop and look. Whether capturing the character of a native tūī among flowers or preserving a bouquet from a meaningful day, her work celebrates the beauty and personality found in the world around us.
