Meet the Artist
Eszter Luca is a New Zealand based artist living and working in Åtautahi Christchurch. Originally from Europe, she moved to Nelson in 2004 and developed a deep connection to the natural beauty, colour, and quiet moments found in Aotearoa’s landscapes and birdlife. This connection continues to shape her work today.
Her original paintings draw inspiration from details often overlooked in everyday life. Light filtering through leaves, the softness of petals, and the presence of native birds within their environments all influence her practice. Working primarily in acrylic, Eszter builds her pieces through many thin layered applications of paint, creating depth, atmosphere, and a sense of calm. Gold accents are sometimes incorporated to catch the light and shift subtly throughout the day, giving each artwork a living and ever changing quality.
Alongside her personal practice, Eszter also creates bespoke bridal bouquet paintings. These commissions preserve the colour, movement, and sentiment of wedding flowers in a timeless artwork. Each bouquet painting is developed individually and with care, honouring the story behind it while allowing space for artistic interpretation and expression.
Whether creating original works or commissions, Eszter’s art is rooted in a desire to capture moments of stillness, beauty, and emotional connection. Her paintings are designed not only to be seen, but to be lived with, bringing warmth, reflection, and a sense of quiet wonder into the spaces they inhabit.
